Meet Selene
Selene took a big step when she moved from Guadalajara, Mexico, to Langfang, China, to continue her journey with Nefab there.
Can you tell us about your current situation and day-to-day work?
I am currently working as Sourcing Manager and Sales Coordinator in Langfang, China. Working in a small unit in Nefab means that you sometimes can have a split role, which is the case for me. In my day-to-day work, I take the advantage of being involved in both areas to align the needs so that we can better target the customers’ requests.
In my role as Sourcing Manager, I work together with my team to secure reliable suppliers which are aligned with our requirements, including our Code of Conduct and sustainability focus. As Sales Coordinator, I support the sales team with various tasks, such as market analysis and prepare information to the management about customers and sales projects.
My experience from working in different areas and regions in Nefab helps me in my daily work. Also, I have received rich training which has given me a greater understanding about Nefab, our packaging solutions and how to address customers’ needs.
I heard something about you have English classes for your colleagues, tell us more!
Nefab’s company language is English, however, some of my colleagues does not speak or understand it. So, my manager asked me if I wanted to teach my colleagues English on the side of my ordinary work. This has been a great opportunity for me to connect even more with the team. Their enthusiasm and quick development is really great to see.
What motivates you in your work?
Working at Nefab is constantly challenging: there is simply no time to get bored! There is always something new to learn or something new to achieve. This working environment, a growing company and the possibility to grow personally and professionally keeps me motivated!
So, Selene, tell us about the best part of working for Nefab?
What I like the most about working at Nefab is that, even though it is a global company, we still have the opportunity to make actions and take decisions that have an impact. This is a clear example of one of our core values, Empowerment; managers and colleagues really listen to people and consider their ideas and opinions. I have not seen this in many bigger, global companies. Also, I enjoy working in a global environment together with all the skilled and talented people Nefab has gathered across the world.
How would you describe Nefab?
I believe Nefab's core values of Simplicity, Respect and Empowerment actually are the words that best describe the culture. Also, Nefab is a company that pays great attention to their people and truly empowers them. This, together with the fact that Nefab encourages global mobility within the company, creates a multicultural atmosphere of highly skilled people, many of whom have grown in the company for many years.
Can you tell us about how your journey at Nefab started?
I heard about Nefab when I was studying at the university in Mexico. I felt very attracted to the company because of its global working environment, so I decided to apply. In 2016, I first started as Project Manager for the setting up of a new site in Ciudad Juarez. Later, I was promoted to become the Sourcing Manager for Mexico.
You are now located in Langfang, China, what brought you there?
My goal since I started at Nefab has been to work abroad. I studied in China some years ago and I could still speak some Chinese, so I started to explore the opportunities for me to be transferred to China and here I am. I feel so grateful for the journey that Nefab has allowed me to have. I am also grateful for being involved in many different projects and been part of different functions. Altogether, this have enabled me to grow both personally and professionally.
Can you share a memory from your time at Nefab?
I had the opportunity to participate in Nefab’s internal training program called Pakademy in Runemo, Sweden, where Nefab was founded back in the 1940s. During the training, I got to work with people in different functions from many other countries, which really allowed us to learn from each other both professionally and culturally. The training itself was also very interesting, covering everything from the roots of Nefab to where we are today, the future ahead of us and a greater understanding of our packaging solutions and offers.
It was also great to get a better understanding of Sweden during the evenings, where we spent time together doing typical Swedish activities and eating traditional food.
What are your thoughts about the future?
I see myself in China for the coming years and I am curious to continue learning more about the other areas in Nefab. Nefab is on a growth journey, and I want to join them and continue growing with the company!
